According to the NBC BLK Facebook page, the network is hoping to create a "conversation around black identity and culture" with its new platform:
NBCBLK is an inclusive space for stories about politics, culture and social issues. Our aim is to inspire greater conversation around black identity and culture in America today. We will be sharing positive stories about what is happening in black communities, and reporting on challenging issues that these communities face.

Amber Payne is the Managing Editor of NBCBLK, a section within NBCNEWS.COM, that will launch early 2015.

It should also be noted that this isn't the first subsection of NBC devoted to a specific group of people. NBC News Digital currently includes NBC Latino and The Grio, another portal for African-American news.
