How to show support for your candidate in the 2004 presidential election

A Message in the Public Interest

To show our solidarity as Americans, let's all get together and show each other our support for the candidate of our choice. It's time that we all came together, Democrats and Republicans alike.

If you support the policies and character of John Kerry, please drive with your headlights 'ON' during the day.

If you support George W. Bush, please drive with your headlights 'OFF' at night.

Origins:   This bit of election humor from 2004 combines a couple of elements we've seen before: the concept of driving with headlights on during the daytime to express solidarity with a group, and the partisan humor of suggesting that adherents of different parties engage in similar activities that (if implemented) would work to the detriment of one side. Unlike the example from 2000, however, the item quoted above isn't likely to cause any confused recipients to miss their dates with the ballot box (unless they're gullible enough to actually go driving around at night with their headlights off).
