Last June, we fact-checked a viral allegation to the effect that J.K. Rowling, the author of the “Harry Potter” series of children’s books, had “confirmed” taking a stance “against transgender women.” We concluded at the time that the allegation was false due to a paucity of evidence and the lack of direct statements by Rowling addressing the issue.
Now, six months later, Rowling is at the center of a roiling controversy caused by a tweet she wrote indicating that she may indeed hold trans-exclusionary views. Snopes reporter Dan MacGuill has the update.
