Much Ado About a Middle Finger

Featured on Snopes today: A misidentified middle finger trends on social media, a report on the first known use of "OMG," and religion vs. science in Ohio.

The second day of the Trump impeachment hearings yielded plenty of social media fodder, not least an indelible viral image of U.S. Rep. Elise Stafanik of New York apparently — and with great gusto — “flipping the bird” at the proceedings.

Although, as many pointed out, the perturbed look on Stefanik’s face seemed to match the obscene gesture she was portrayed as making, others questioned the authenticity of the photo and suggested it was digitally manipulated.

Snopes.com’s David Mikkelson reports that two different versions of the image exist, and only one of them is real.
