Damakant Jayshi, a journalist from Nepal, joined Snopes' newsroom as a fact-checker in March 2023. With over a decade in journalism, he has donned many hats — copy editor, reporter, writer, and, now, fact-checker. Before joining Snopes, he was a general assignments reporter for Wausau Pilot & Review, a digital newspaper in Wisconsin. He has covered politics, parliament, international affairs, violent conflict, refugees, and health, among other topics. He is the founder of South Asia Check, Nepal’s first fact-checking website, that, in addition to fact-checking claims, critiqued news media’s prolific use of anonymous sources. Damakant is a 2007 Nieman Fellow. He considers jire khursani (green chili from Nepal, like a larger cumin seed) and Darjeeling tea the best offerings from nature. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Atlanta.
