Six Dogs Snarl Traffic During Police Chase

Officers were forced to collar the dogs as they were taking the driver into custody.

Six dogs briefly stopped traffic on a California freeway Monday when they jumped out of a Mercedes during a police pursuit.

The car was parked on the shoulder of the 91 freeway in Orange County when police pulled up behind it. The driver then sped off, leading officers on a chase that ended only when a California Highway Patrol officer rammed the car.

The driver initially refused to get out of the car. When police finally got her out to take her into custody, six dogs leapt out of the Mercedes and took off into the freeway lanes.

Officers had to keep traffic stopped completely to chase the dogs down and corral them before they could re-open the lanes. The woman — and the dogs — were taken safely into custody. It’s not clear what charges she will face.
