Sunrise Over Manhattan

Claim:   Photograph shows sunrise through the World Trade Center towers.

Status:   True.

Example:   [Collected on the Internet, 2002]

This picture was taken by a lady returning on a cruise this past summer (July 28, 2001). It is a sunrise over lower Manhattan.

SHE Writes: As I watched the beautiful skyline of New York City float past me I noticed the sun was about to line up just behind the twin towers. I was lucky enough to snap the picture at exactly the right moment. If you look at the sun rays it is almost prophetic — a little spooky.

Origins:   We can't swear that the details of how and when this photograph was taken are exactly as described above, but the picture is "true" in the sense that it does match the view of the Manhattan skyline as seen from the Hudson River and shows no obvious signs of digital manipulation or other extraordinary attributes.

For what it's worth, the web site at Drew University credits this photograph to a woman named Sue Urban:
This photo was taken by Sue Urban at 7:00 a.m. on July 28, 2001 with a digital camera from a cruise ship on the Hudson River. No alterations were made to the original.
