  Two Staten Islanders Charged in Dental Scam   (Staten Island Advance)
  • Two Staten Islanders have been charged in connection with a three-year scam in which one of the pair posed as a dentist operating out of a Brooklyn office.

  • Police are warning residents to be wary of a telephone scam that tries to bilk people by telling them they’ve won a lottery but need to send in a cash processing fee to collect the prize.

  • Authorities are trying to recover about $400,000 in bogus tax rebates paid to prisoners who falsified tax returns with the help of a jailed former accountant.


  •   Man Facing Probation After Running Internet Genealogy Scam   (KCRG-TV, Cedar Rapids)
  • A Cedar Rapids man is on probation for scamming on-line genealogists out of thousands of dollars.


  •   Program Comes to Rescue of Moving Scam Victims   (Washington Post)
  • With 4,000 to 5,000 mover-fraud complaints filed each year at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration — a small percentage of the "rogue mover" scams perpetrated against consumers — the moving industry has launched a new program, MoveRescue.


  •   Beware of New Scam in Town   (Malaysiakini)
  • I just heard a few days ago that a new type of crime has surfaced in town. It goes something like this. Somebody slips a handphone into your pocket. Sometimes it could be just a wallet with an identity card and a little money. A few minutes later, the 'owner' comes up and confronts you, the 'thief.'
